The Rise of Twitter as a mainstream business tool

One of the big themes here at CES is not a gadget, rather it’s the way people and businesses are now expecting to be connected most of the time in nearly real time via gadgets running social media, especially Twitter and Facebook. You even see this in the streets of Las Vegas as large hotels will have huge banners suggesting you “Follow” them on Twitter and Facebook.

As Steve Rubel of Edelman observed (on Twitter), we’re entering an era of communications where people expect to be connected most of the time via a variety of gadgets they carry with them and they have in their homes. Rubel sees a big story here as the mainstream advent of Wifi and Social Media Connectivity, and I agree.
